Yellow Creek Park & Carpenters Lake | Owensboro, KY
Claire and Sam chose to have their engagement session at Yellow Creek Park and Carpenters Lake in Owensboro, KY on September 24th, 2021.
This was our first time shooting an engagement session at either of these locations, but we certainly can’t wait to go back.
The weather was absolutely beautiful, we couldn’t have asked for better weather for an engagement session.
We suggest that all couples do an engagement session if they have the time and budget to do so.
They allow you to meet your photographer, get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day, and also get you some great images.
The Engagement Session
Yellow Creek Park was the first location for the engagement session, there would then be an outfit change and Carpenters Lake would be the second location.
We started towards the back of Yellow Creek Park where the bridge and walking trails are located.
Sam and Claire seemed to be fairly comfortable in front of the camera at the start of the session.
I typically start on a longer lens to give the couple more space in the beginning and let them settle into the experience before getting closer. Plus, I just love the images that come from a longer lens anyway.
We visited a few different bridges and walking trails before heading out into an open clearing. We then went searching for a suspension bridge towards the rear of the park and along the way found a puddle of water that we used to get some reflection shots. The suspension bridge was awesome and I can’t wait to go back again just for this aspect of the park.
Claire and Sam then changed outfits and we went to a secluded area of Carpenters Lake that had a small parking lot and a few jetties.
Towards the end of the session, I switched to an ultra-wide lens because they seemed so comfortable in front of the camera and we ended up getting some of my favorite shots of the session.
The ultra-wide lens allows you to get extremely close but still see a lot of the scene.
There were quite a few special moments caught this way and I will certainly have to start using this strategy more in the future.
Finishing Thoughts
Sam and Claire are very comfortable together and have a special bond that is easy to see.
They couldn’t stop laughing and giggling with each other during the engagement session which made it extremely easy to get great pictures of them.
Claire and Sam will be getting married in Owensboro, KY in July of 2022 and I can’t wait to get them in front of the camera again.
